Last Thursday night saw the Yakkazoo team head off to the annual Bobby Goldsmith Foundation Charity Auction for 2017. As proud sponsors of the event, Yakkazoo has had a long-standing connection with BGF and have been more than proud to support such a great cause.

The Bobby Goldsmith Foundation is Australia’s oldest HIV charity. Since 1984, the amazing team at BGF have been providing practical assistance, financial, housing, study and employment support and interventions to those in need- but most importantly, the charity has provided essential friendship and love to Australians and their families who are affected by HIV.

Yakkazoo CEO and founder, Mark Barrett, has always been a great supporter of BGF and their cause.

“The Bobby Goldsmith Foundation is an amazing organization, and the work itdoes for people living with HIV, drug and alcohol abuse is world class.
For that reason, I personally have been supporting BGF for more than 15 years.
Over the past 5 years, Yakkazoo have also supported BGF with cash and in-kind donations from our business” – Mark Barrett

The Yakkazoo team caught up for sushi and drinks before making tracks to the National Art School, where the charity auction was held in a former female-prisoners gaol turned magnificent event space.

Event-goers were greeted with a red BGF wristband and entered the buzzing atmosphere inside the Cell Block Theatre, donned with fairy lights, great music and fabulously dressed supporters. Champagne and canapés were offered upon arrival, and I can confirm they definitely did not disappear throughout the night either (my headache the next morning may back up this theory).

Throughout the night we were kept entertained by soulful singers Alfie Acuri and Greg Gould, in between lively auctions which saw insanely cool prizes such as a week’s getaway in Bali (12 staff and a case of champagne included), dance classes for 10 with Brent Street, huge beauty hampers from MAC and Kora Organics by Miranda Kerr, special dining offers and theatre experiences, and about a hundred other gifts and getaways. All prizes were generously donated by prize sponsors and friends of the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation. All of this resonated the importance of the BGF and the vital work they do, and it was beautiful to see the generosity and support from the community and organisations to raise funds for such a great cause.

Money was thrown around the auction room (much to my gobsmacked reaction… but at least the money was going to an essential and fabulous cause), and the crowd laughed and loved every moment of the night.

The event was beautifully catered by, and the Yakkazoo team’s highlight of the night was the free Messina gelato cart outside. We may have sampled one or three flavours…each.

The night concluded and all headed home with full stomachs, slightly too much champagne and an overall amazing feeling that our team helped contribute to one of the biggest nights on the charity calendar.

Yakkazoo is filled with incredible pride and happiness to know we support the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation, and we can’t wait to continue to help and hope with BGF to end HIV in Australia.

Thanks for a great night, and here’s hoping there’s definitely more celebrations to come.
