With Sydney and Melbourne in yet more lockdowns, taking care of our mental health has never been more important.  We love a C-word, so we’ve collated some more of our favourites to get you through these difficult times.

While everyone is in lockdown, connecting with family and friends is important more than ever. From mere check ins to something as fun as online trivia, find the time to reach out to your nearest and dearest. Not all connecting needs to be video or phone calls, it could just be a message. A simple message checking in with someone can go a long way.

Now is a time to channel your creative side. Whether it is drawing, colouring, painting, sculpting … get creating. Creating in any way is good for our mental health and a great use of downtime, (as opposed to endless scrolling on socials) but more than that, embrace restrictions as an opportunity to slow down and notice the beauty of your surroundings, local park or your home.

Our third C word for mental health, but this can be any kind of exercise. A quick workout can boost our mood and make us feel more positive about the situation we find ourselves in. Motivation can be difficult in find lockdown so just start small. Don’t focus on what you can’t do, focus on doing as much as you can. Creating the habit is half the battle.

Compassion has become a driver of change. Compassion has always been important to all of us at Yakkazoo but COVID-19 has provided the space and permission to be compassionate of ourselves as well as others. Be extra kind to those around you; everyone is feeling the effects of the pandemic in different ways, but remember it’s important to check in with how you’re feeling and treat yourself with the same care and understanding as you would treat a friend.

Our last, but not least C word! Taking on a new challenge or learning something new is something we all say we wish we could do, but never get around to doing it. Whether it is a new skill, a new language or a new recipe you have wanted to learn, or an old hobby you want to pick back up, lockdown is the ideal time to take it on.
